Motivated by a desire to combat climate change, Chetan co-founded the REVA Electric Car Company, India's first electric car manufacturer, in 1994. Reva launched its first model, the Reva-i, in India in 2001 and in London in 2004. Mahindra Reva has sold over 4,500 cars in 24 countries globally and our customers have driven their Reva electric vehicles petrol-free for over 200 million kms. In May 2010, the USD 15 billion Mahindra Group of India acquired a majority stake in REVA and the company was renamed Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles. Chetan led the team that created one of the world’s greenest automobile manufacturing facility in Bangalore with a production capacity of 30,000 cars per annum. It is the first automotive plant in the country to be awarded the highest Platinum rating by IGBC. He led the development of the e2o, one of the world’s most cost effective, highway safe electric vehicles which incorporates several world class features and technologies. His vision and pioneering innovations in electric vehicles have been recognized through several awards worldwide, including Mahindra Reva being voted as one of the 50 Most Innovative Companies in the world in 2013. With a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (University of Michigan) where he focused on solar electric vehicles, and a Master's in Mechanical Engineering (Stanford University) where he worked on hybrid electric vehicles, Chetan has over 20 years of experience in the development of solar, hybrid and electric vehicles in the U.S. and India. Prior to REVA, he worked for Amerigon Inc. (USA) and General Motors (USA). As a program manager at Amerigon, he was responsible for all electric vehicle programs and initiated the REVA project.
